One of the functions of this Archive is to connect family members across time and space.
Tim, a Newfoundland researcher has expressed interest in the connection between the FLIGHT and MOORE families. In particular he is tracing the link between James Flight of Newfoundland ( b abt 1760) and the Channel Islands. The bulk of our information on these families has been contributed by VINCOMBE and MISKIN descendants in the USA and Australasia. If anyone is able to add depth to our knowledge of these families please feel free to comment, or to email the archivist directly.
Our MOORE connection begins in Northumberland, England with John Moore born in 1745. His son Stephen (b 1761 St Alex parish Northumberland) married Elizabeth FLIGHT 28 Jan 1797 at St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands.(source IGI) We have no record of his death. The Elizabeth Moore and William Moore mentioned in the parish records may have been Stephen's siblings.
William Moore married Marie LE RETILLEY 11 March 1800 at St Peter Port (IGI 7215723 99)
We can positively affirm then, Moores had settled at St Peter Port by 1796.
Elisabeth Flight, daughter of Thomas Flight and Anne ROBERT was born 9 June 1767 at St Peter Port. She married Stephen Moore 28 Jan 1797 at the Town Church there. They had four children:
